{DIY Wedding Programs}

Andrew and I searched high and low for Programs to use at our wedding. The only ones I found that I truly loved were super expensive (surprise!). So I started digging around and found an image from a wedding in California and thought maybe I could recreate the program. I got close and everyone really loved our programs so I thought I would share them with you! Hey I figure why not share the love right? I’ve included the Word Doc I used to make the programs. Yes I used Word and not Photoshop (holding my head down in shame), but I just found myself printing from Word so it was just easier. At any rate, I used 5.5 x 7.5 white card stock I purchased from Michael’s, printing on the front and back. AND I didn’t even use an entire color cartridge on this. Pretty impressive huh.

  1. Thank you so much for this free download. I am using it for my daughter’s wedding. I had no problem editing the first page, but I am unable to edit the text boxes on the second page. Suggestions. If relevant, I am using Word on a MacBook.

  2. Hi!
Thank you so much for posting this! I love the style of this program, and I’ve already gone through and changed most of the details so they match up with my wedding! The only thing i can’t seem to figure out is on the back side, around the section that talks about cheering after the first kiss, how do you change the color of the } symbol?
    Thanks again!

  3. THANK YOU! I’ve been looking for something like this and tried to make one in photoshop….epic fail! Thank you for sharing and using a program I am familiar with!

  4. Thank you so much for this! I am not great at setting up text boxes and this is so helpful. Besides that I love the informal tone of your program. Others I found were so stiff and proper! Love yours!

  5. THANK YOU! My daughter wanted something just like this for her wedding and we are about busted on the budget, so having this as a free download was perfect!

  6. I wasn’t going to do a program for our wedding, but after seeing this, how could we not?! LOVE this. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

  7. Looove this! I’m going to customize it for my destination beach wedding. Thank you so much for creating a cute, informative wedding program!

    1. Awwww the invitation was a bit more formal. But I loved them. They had some slight touches on the RSVP card that weren’t traditional (that was six years ago so people are totally using it now). Instead of yes we put “Wouldn’t Miss it!” and for No we put “Oh man, I’m missing the part of the century.” We also gave options for food and made those a bit more interesting. “Bock Bock” for chicken and “Land and Sea” for the surf and turf option. <3

  8. Hello! Thank you so much for making this an editable version for others to use! AWESOME-SAUCE
However, I have one problem, I cant get this to print double sided. What to do?

      1. Yup! I sent it to a printing company…lol I couldn’t get it to print the way I wanted it. My guests loved this program! Thank uou

  9. Hey!
I abosutely love this! However, I cannot figure out for the life of me how to edit it, other than the date, and our names. Everything else gets all jumbled or cannot do it. Any ideas?

  10. Thanks for this diy post, I’m currently in process trying to use it. I have a macbook, not sure if I can use word as a program. I love the way you narrated the entire program using your own words giving it a very special effect.

  11. I love this, but I can’t get it to print porperly on a 5.5X7.5 and I can’t find anywhere that can print it.

    1. Im having the same problem. It prints perfectly on the back but doesnt print correctly on the front. Have you figured anything out with it by chance?

  12. I used your template for my wedding programs and they turned out super cute! But… after I got them all printed, cut and ribbons tied my sister-in-law pointed out that ‘newlyweds’ is misspelled. You may want to correct that so that future brides don’t have a typo on their programs. I didn’t notice it because it wasn’t anything I had to edit but it’s too late to correct them now :-/

  13. I’m having trouble opening the last program download. Is there any way anyone who can open it could try emailing it to me at curlyq8(at) gmail dot com? Thank you so much! Jamie

  14. I love, love, love this program! Perfect!! How many did you print out using just the one cartridge? I’m just trying to get an idea of what I will be looking at when purchasing my supplies. And also, I saw you used 5.5 x 7.5 card stock. Would using a 5 x 7 be a mistake? I don’t want everything to shift.

  15. First off, I want to say how much we love this design!

We edited our information into it but when we printed it everything shifted over to the middle of the page. We are using the recommended size paper. Can you help us?

  16. So I just found this and LOVE it! However, I’m having the same problem with the first page editing. It is not allowing me to “ungroup” to change the names…can anyone help a pretty pitiful computer user? haha I would appreciate it!!

  17. I LOVE this template!! Is there any way to change the color of the brackets?? Also, I can’t seem to edit the first box. Any suggestions? πŸ™‚

  18. YOU ARE AMAZING! After hours of searching I came across your program template and it was exactly what I was looking for. And it was FREE. And it was in WORD… Thank you so much for sharing, you really are a life saver!

  19. thank you SO, SO much for the program templates!! you are a life-saver. I am acting as wedding coordinator for my sweet niece and love the fun, cute program, but like you – found it very expensive to buy. I knew I could do it in Word (no hanging your head needed – I’m with you!) but also knew it would take me alot of time to work it out. God bless you for doing it!! yippeee!!! thanks so much!

  20. This is so awesome of you !! I had all my programs done and paid way to much for them but it was worth it at the time!!! UNTIL unexpected changes had to be made:( now we have to redo all of our programs! This is SAVING our BUTS πŸ™‚
Just one questions – First page where it says you will hear songs chosen by Megan & Andrew.. I am unable to change the names? Only part of it that will not allow us to . Any suggestions ?

    Thank you again !! πŸ™‚

  21. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this! This speaks to me & my finance. I cannot express my gratitude. πŸ™‚

  22. Hi Megan,

I love your template, thank you very much for sharing it. I am not able to move the text boxes on the second page – is the second page set up differently than the first page?? Thanks for your assistance.

    1. Billie – right click and select, “ungroup”

The second page has all of its elements grouped together. πŸ™‚

  23. I just want to say thank you for posting this! Your programs are adorable!! I’m thinking of doing something similar but making them into program fans since we are getting married in July. I have a questions for you, though. I need to print mine on gray cardstock instead of white, which I cannot find in the 5.5 x 7.5 size anywhere! Any suggestions on how I can size it down? I think I may have found some gray cardstock that is 5×7, which is close!!
Thanks for all your help!! πŸ™‚

    1. Well aren’t you sweet Chelsie! Thank YOU for stopping by AND for your kind words!!

Hmmmm sizing them down might be a total PITA b/c everything in Word will shift (esp 1/2in on either side). I wish I could be of more help. 5.5 x 7.5 is pretty standard for cardstock, but maybe not in the gray. Eeeek!

      GOOD LUCK!!!!

  24. This is fantastic! So original and lighthearted! I’m definitely going to use as well as feature on my David Tutera It’s a Brides Life blog! Thank you so much!!

  25. All I can say is THANK YOU! I was so nervous about venturing into making my own program. But I saw this and I fell in love! So really, thank you, thank you, thank you! It really is one less thing that I have to worry about! 60 days left today!

  26. You just saved my sanity. I LOVE these programs and the template let me put them together quickly, which is awesome since I only have 19 days to finish up wedding prep. Thank you!

  27. Hi! I just found this program on pinterest and I am absolutely obsessed with it!! I can’t wait to adjust it to fit my own information. You did such a great job!
I tried downloading it but the full program doesn’t actually download for me. Could you email it to me instead? That may fix the problem.

    1. Hey Jennifer – you might want to try downloading again. I’ve tried and it seems to be downloading okay on this end (my phone, my laptop, and my husbands phone as well). So glad you love it and good luck with the planning!!

  28. Thank you so much for putting this beautiful template on here for anyone to use! πŸ™‚ I absolutely LOVE IT!

Is there any way to change the color of the { } from orange ??

      1. Amazing work!! I’m also unable to change the color of the brackets after clicking on them. The color option isn’t an option when highlighted. Has this been a problem for anyone else and is there a solution?

  29. Hello,

Thank you so much for sharing this πŸ™‚ I downloaded the template and input all my information. But for some reason when I try and inout the groomsmen names it give me an ” error” message and clicks out of the template! Am I doing something wrong? or is it because I’m using a MAC?

    1. I have NO idea Traci! It could be a word compatibility issue? This was designed in Word 2003 – is that it perhaps?? Wish I could be of more help!! Thanks for stopping by!

  30. Hi Megan,

Thank you so much! The program is wonderful and lighthearted. We are getting married in Vegas, this is a perfect template for us, can’t wait to put our personal touches on it. Like yourself, I could not find one that is fun and lighthearted. Thank you again, for helping brides to be like me a stress free wedding planning. One less thing we (I) have to worry about.

    million hugs,

    1. Vicky that was so sweet!!!! I’m so glad you and your fiance will be able to incorporate this into your special day AND one thing I can take off your plate b/c I know planning a wedding is pure craziness! Congratulations and best of luck!!

  31. Thank you for sharing this. We all know how costly everything can add up to and not many are willing to share their inexpensive ideas.

I have a question as to what fonts you used? They changed when I opened the document.

    1. Hey Terri! No problem. I used a whole slew of them, here’s a few I can remember off the top of my head: Lucidia, Cambria, Calibri, Gothic Pro, and Mincho Pro. Lawwwd, that was a lot!!

      Thanks for stopping by!!

  32. Hi there, I’m having trouble with the link you provided for the diy program. I keep getting a problem loading page. Do you think you can email the template to me? Pretty please. Thanks!

    1. Hey Mak – unfortunately I can’t do that. But I’ve checked the link several times and the doc file is still there and ready to be used. Sorry, just having some “fraud” issues as of late. Thanks for stopping by and send me an email if you are still having trouble megan{at}themcbaileys{dot}com

  33. I love these programs. I was not going to do any, but I absolutely love what you created! Quick question – how do I change the color of the brackets?

    Thank you in advance!!

    1. Hey Kamryn – You should just be able to click on them individually and change them like you change the font color! So glad you love them! Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚ Hugs, Megan

    2. i love these programs as well!!! Thanks so much. But i’m having the same problem with the brackets :/ i tried what you said Megan, but no luck. Kamryn, did you figure out? (i’m on a mac btw) thanks so much!!!

      1. Hey Jazmine – I just opened it up on a Mac and didn’t have any issues clicking on the brackets. Sorry!!! So glad you love the programs and thank you for stopping by! I hope you figure it out!

  34. I just want to say THANK YOU!! your such an amazing person for sharing this template up. with only two week again from today this has save me so much time and money I truly can not thank you enough!!!

    1. Awww, this makes me so happy Samantha! I’m so glad you were able to incorporate it into your day and so happy to have helped make the wedding planning process a tad easier. Hope your day is wonderful!!

  35. Thank you so so much for sharing the download for your program! I saw it on Pinterest and absolutely fell in love. I searched high and low for what was on the back and then I finally found your blog. I truly appreciate you sharing what you worked so hard to create πŸ™‚

  36. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I am so excited me and my fiancΓ©e are getting married at a beautiful rustic barn and this program is phenomenal!! Plus we are both artists so anything esthetically beautiful we love!! Thanks again

  37. Can’t thank you enough for sharing this and the link! It’s A-MA-ZING!
I just finished editing with our info and showed it to my fiance’. HE LOVES IT!!

  38. Thanks so much for posting this! I love the program and was so excited that you provided the template πŸ™‚ It’s so much more fun than the traditional wedding program! I have saved it to my laptop and will be using it for my wedding!!

    1. Woop! Love that Erin and would love to see your final product after you’ve personalized it with your wedding touches. So glad I could help out and be a part of your special day. Congratulations!!!

  39. Yes, thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this on here with the wedding template. I loved this as well. You are so wonderful for uploading for free and letting others use this idea!

Very clever, very witty, and cute. Even my fiance loved it.

  40. Thank you so much for sharing your Program layout in Word!
I have been searching and searching for a suitable program layout/idea. When I found yours I loved it. it’s witty and keeps the interest of the reader. I updated the paper size to 4.25 x 11 so I can use the brown kraft sheets I have and cut them in half long ways to get two programs per sheet. I had a little extra room on the back so I added a fun game to the bottom too.
    Thank you thank you!

  41. this came right on time for my wedding in 3 months
    you are a rockstar !!
what paper and size would you suggest?

    thanks so much πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Ashley – I used 5.5 x 7.5 white card stock I found at Michael’s and adjusted my paper size (in Word) and print size (for my printer) accordingly. I hope that helps!

Thanks for stopping by and so glad you can use the programs!!

  42. Did you ever imagine in your wildest dreams how popular your program template would be?! I’m so excited that I found it! And thank you for sharing! I’m a 12.13.14 Vegas bride and this program will fit in perfectly!!

  43. I just wanted to say a hugeeeeeeeeeee thank you!!!!!! I’m getting married in 36 days and I was going to order programs but they are soooo expensive and then we had a groomsmen back out so thank god I didn’t order them. And now I’ve been trying to make my own and it’s just not working haha. So i was cruising pinterest and came across this page. These are so freaking fun and cute – I am literally so excited right now that I’m crying. Thank you soooooo much for sharing these for us non crafty people haha. You have no idea how much I love this freebie!!! πŸ™‚

    – Tricia

    1. Tricia – this gave me chills AND made me cry. I’m so happy I could help you!! I hope they turn out fabulous and everyone loves them! CONGRATULATIONS and good luck!!

  44. Hi megan!
How did you get these to print? I had a hard time finding the correct paper size (5.5×7.5) so we were going to try to print on regular paper and fold them. Any tips on print settings? when i changed the setting to landscape, it messed with the formatting. Please help!! Thanks, PS THANK YOU for putting up this program!! I LOVE IT!

    1. Hey Chau –

You’d have to adjust your printer settings to whatever size paper you are using. This is the cardstock I found at Michael’s and I used for printing. So it’s going to be a custom paper size for printing. You won’t be able to use any standard size printing. Definitely don’t change to Landscape b/c it will totally reformat the whole thing. That help?

      Megan πŸ™‚

  45. These are amazing, thank you! It was really easy to change out the information, and then the colors to match ours. Just a little FYI on the printer settings for others, the paper size is custom. You just need to add the width (5.5 inches) and the height (7.5 inches) under the paper settings and they’ll come out perfect. Printing the fronts, then the backs was definitely easier too. I was beginning to freak out about getting programs done, and these are the best. Thank you!

  46. Hi Megan!!! I am IN LOVE with this template; I have had the SAME ISSUE with finding a program I liked. I am customizing your creating for my upcoming wedding, and I am wondering how you change the colors of the brackets that are large and orange???

  47. I am struggling to move the text boxes around on the 2nd page. I had no problems at all on the first page. Do you have the settings set differently? What am I missing?

    1. Hey Jen – Sorry to hear that! No, I don’t have anything set differently….not sure what’s going on. Eeeekkk. Sorry!!! Wish I could be of more help!

      1. I figured it out! All of the text boxes on the 2nd page were “grouped”. I had to “ungroup” them before I could make any adjustments to the size and/or location of the boxes. Thank you so much for your reply.

Thanks also for the awesome template! I love that you were willing to share all your hard work! I was going to order a template from Etsy because I absolutely do not have time to do this from scratch. You saved me and probably so many others lots of $$!

        1. OOOO I forgot I did that! *laughing* You are very very welcome. I did the same thing. Searched high and low! I’m so glad that you are able to use it and love it. More than happy to help complete someone else’s special day!!!

  48. So I used this template it is great, however what printer settings did you use, because I can’t get my to print the center of the same type and size cards that you used.

      1. I am using word 2007 and the size paper I think it is called A4 or A5. It is the size of a half sheet of paper. I have tried printing with the size in 2007 set to A5, but it goes off to the side. You template… prints perfectly in the middle to a full sheet of paper, but the minute I put in that paper it prints it off to the side.

  49. Thank you so much for this template!! It is fantastic! I’m having a heck of a time getting them to print double sided… any insight you can offer? Lol! Thanks again!!

    1. Hey Amanda –

Yes, I did too! So to remedy that, I printed all of front side side first, THEN printed all of the back side next (using the ones that were already printed on the front). Does that make sense?

  50. Thank you so so much for sharing this!! My fiancΓ© and I have been searching for an inexpensive program for our wedding and like you said some of them are outrageous and we also didn’t want the traditional streamlined programs either. I stubbled across your on pinterst and we both love it!! and it is so us!! Thank you so much for sharing this!! Just one quick question… i am editing it now and I am changing the color scheme and I am having a hard time changing the parenthesis… i tried to delete the little ones to try to edit it that way but I can’t even delete it. Any ideas? Thanks again!! : )

    1. I’m so glad you guys like it and are going to use it! Yaaay! Hmmm, might depend on which version of Word you are using (this was created in Word 2003), but you should be able to just click on them and then change the font color. If not, then maybe try deleting and adding into the program in the color you’d prefer. Hope that helps!!

      Megan πŸ™‚

      1. Hi Megan!!

Sorry for the delayed response! I figured it out I am using a Mac and also using Microsoft Word, I had to change something with the grouping… not even sure what that means. LOL. Our Wedding was April 26 and the programs turned out amazing!! Thank you so much again!!

        Susan πŸ™‚

        1. That’s fantastic Susan!! I’m so glad it turned out well and you were able to get the grouping, ungrouped {I think} πŸ™‚

  51. Hey there Megan… I love that you shared this you are so awesome for doing that. I got my all edited an ready go. Thanks sooo much. I also seen were you said u were going to post the invitations you did also but I can’t find them anywhere! πŸ™

  52. Your template is fantastic but I’ve got a couple of questions.. who escorted the mums to their seats? Did your groom walk down the aisle too? Thanks

    1. Hey Elaina – I’m not sure, they are definitely stick straight. Could it be that the paper is grabbing from the printer at a slant? Be sure to push the cardstock flush to the printer tray. Sometimes the printer can grab the paper and shift it a bit. You may have to manually feed it a few times to see what’s going on. Best of luck!!
      Megan πŸ™‚

  53. Hi there,
I just wanted to say thank you thank you for sharing your program template, however, I cannot use the link? I have no idea why it is not working for me. Would it be too much trouble to email it to me? I don’t want to impose or anything, but I love the template!

    Thank you again,

  54. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for posting these!!! I spent almost two hours trying to find an easy cute template. I FINALLY found yours, and it is perfect. You are so generous for sharing! πŸ™‚

  55. My fiance found this floating around on pinterest recently and really grooved on it!
Thank you so much for having a word.doc so that we might be able to make up our own!
    It is more than appreciated!

    Nicole & Andy

  56. HI THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for posting this. I got everything switched and looking perfect, then when it came to print, I am clueless. The whole point to doing this is to save money, we went to fed ex to get them printed. would cost $120 for how many I need so Im trying to print on my parents computer. Fed ex did two fronts on one page, then did the same for the back. How in the world did you print yours?? I am in need of serious help. My wedding is in 7 days!

  57. Just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your design! It was exactly what I was looking for my wedding this November! I’m going to use Grey Card Stock, with black and red letters! Thank you again! πŸ™‚

  58. Thank you so much for sharing your template and allowing us to use it. I have been looking for a wedding program template for months and your’s was free, fun and super easy to use.

  59. Thank you so much for sharing the template! I am not getting married until May 2014 but saw this on Pinterest, downloaded the template, and made all the edits this morning! I am going to turn it into a fan for my beach wedding. Love it!

Quick question: I love that you used Marry Me as your processional song. Do you mind sharing what other songs you used for the rest of the processional?

  60. I cannot for the life of me change ANYTHING on these, and my fiance and I are in LOVE with them! I download it to word, and I can’t edit anything. Am I doing something wrong? Having one of those moments!

    PS- AWESOME work!

    1. Hey Callie – Not sure why not, there are in Word so you should be able to change anything and everything (they aren’t locked down). Let me know if you figure out what’s going on. Maybe download them again?!?!?

  61. Hi! I love this program and would like to use it. However, I would like to make the parentheses to be a different color other than orange and can’t figure out how to change them? Help please! Thanks!

    1. I mean the first set that says about the music within them. I cannot select the text either, but am able to for the back..

      1. I wish I could delete the above comments as I now figured out how to delete the items and then just put my own in its place. Sorry for all the comments…

        1. No problem Julia! I love that you are Using them and that you final,y got it. So sorry, I’ve been a little MIA after taking this new job so my apologies in being so absent and not able to help out. Best of luck!! πŸ™‚

  62. I didn’t read closely before. I just saw what size cardstock you used. Sorry πŸ™ How many programs did you print (since you said you used only one cartridge). I want to make sure I have enough at once.

Thanks again! This is amazing! πŸ™‚

  63. I found these on pinterest and am in love. I thought about ordering programs from somewhere, but didn’t want to spend a fortune or they didn’t have enough room for all things I wanted to include like you did. This is BRILLIANT. I do have one question – what size cardstock did you use? Do I need to change anything on the printer settings or size? Thank you so much for allowing us to use this template for free!

  64. I absolutely love these!!so happy you posted this and it was super easy to edit!!! Thanks again! ohh and are you planning to post your invites as well?? I am sure you did an equally excellent job on them too!

    1. Thank you Jennifer! I actually had my invites made by a super awesome gal on Etsy? Once I get this new job under wraps ill be posting more and ill post them for ya!

  65. Thank you so much for allowing us to use the template! I love it so much, doing ours this weekend for our upcoming wedding in August! Thanks again!

  66. Thank you so much for sharing this! I found this perusing on Pinterest. We actually just bought some DIY programs, but they pale in comparison to these, so I’m returning them to Michael’s to buy some card stock so we can use this instead!
    A couple of questions:
    1. I’m having both of my parents escort me down the aisle (my parents are divorced, and I was raised mostly by my mom, but I’ve always been very close with my dad). Do you have any suggestions on what to put in the box that says bride’s mother being escorted to her seat?

    2. I’ve never used card stock in the printer before. (My wedding is my first “being crafty” sort of inspiration. Eek!) Do I need to change printer settings before I begin?

    1. Hey Brianna –

I’m so glad you like them and you are using them! I think you should just take those lines out and expand on the line which speaks about you being escorted down the aisle. I think that will work out just fine. πŸ™‚

You definitely don’t need to change your printer settings. However, cardstock does use a little more ink that regular paper, so be prepared with some extra colored ink on hand. I promise it’s super easy!

Let me know if you have any more questions and I would love to see pics!! πŸ™‚

      Hugs & Good luck!

  67. Thank you so much for posting this!!! I have been stressing about programs for weeks and all the ones I like are expensive just like you! You are such a God Send!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!!

  68. Hey! I am totally using these for our wedding programs! Thanks! They are freaking awesome! Just a question though! I am trying to change the color of the dividers (the thin lines) in the ceremony part and I can’t seem to select them to change them….Any tips???

    1. Thanks Sara, I’m so glad you like them!! πŸ™‚ I think they are pretty awesome too. πŸ™‚ Hmmm, I don’t know. I made them using the drawing tool in Word (the line tool) so they should just change once you select them. Bizarre!!

    2. If you didn’t get them a different color yet – once they are selected by putting your courser over the line and the 4 point thing comes up and you click, then right click and the last option in the box says format auto shape and you change the color there. At least that’s how I did it.

  69. I absolutely love this! The only thing is my fiance’s father isn’t mentioned.. anyway we can make him a part of this program since all the other parents are mentioned?

I was actually thinking too, when does the grooms father come down the aisle, or doesn’t he?

    1. Hey Amanda –

So glad you like thme!! My FIL was actually the best man, so that’s how he was included. But I was thinking, maybe where I talk about my MIL being escorted down the aisle, you could mention your handsome FIL escorting her. Would that work?

  70. I am so glad I found these! Thank you so much for sharing! My FiancΓ© and I love them!! Cant wait to use them for the wedding!!!

    1. That’s awesome Camille! So glad you guys like it (especially your fiance!). Let me know how they turn out and if folks like them!! GOOD LUCK!!! πŸ™‚

  71. These are absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to use them! They are perfect for both mine and my hubby to be’s personalities!! Thank you so much for sharing!

  72. Absolutely LOVE this template, Megan! I’m going to be using it for our wedding, I know everyone will get a kick out of it! Thank you!
