Fun little bunting banners can be seen everywhere. I found some super cute ones on Etsy, folks who give away free printables, etc. So when planning a pastel inspired bridal shower I figured I might as well just make my own. Now, here’s the catch. I don’t know how to sew. So it surely wasn’t going to a fabric pendant banner. I knew there had to be a way to easily make one with paper. I mean you’re just going to throw it away afterwards anyway, right? So here’s how I made mine!
I figured out that in Microsoft Word I could just make a triangle, flip it upside down, and throw a pattern in it. GENIUS. So, that’s exactly what I did. You can download my super sophisticated “triangle template” here. Now, the triangle will vary in size depending on how large you want your pendant to be, so take that into consideration. The triangle in the template is what I came to after a bit of trial and error.
To print these out, I used 8.5 x 11 cardstock, my handy dandy color printer, and some fun free patterns I found online. You could also insert fun fonts, over top of a pattern, if you are trying to spell something out (Like Happy Birthday) or you could just remove the pattern and insert the fonts. At any rate, completely up to you.
Once I printed a few out, I figured I was going to need four or 5 different patterns in various pastel shades. Which means I would need 8 – 10 for the length I was going for. Remember, I eyeballed all of this. No perfect science here. Just a trial and error gal. 🙂
I downloaded the pattern from Snackcups and Smiles and then edited the colors manually in Word.
Here’s where the real sophistication came in, I cut them with scissors by hand. Yep, I sure did. Awesome, I know. Then I hole punched them so I could string through some jute, by hand. Holy sophistication right?!?! Make sure you cut your string/ribbon/etc pretty lengthy to space the pendants out. More is better, you can always trim down but you can’t add (without some awful knots showing up).
And that’s it folks. I mean HOW EASY IS THAT? All of these fancy machines and sewing, psshhhhttt, leave it to me to give it to you SUPER DIY style. 🙂
Let me know if you have any questions – more than happy to give an answer, if I can. 😉
