{Life Lessons: Embrace Uncertainty}

For those of you who know me, you know I’m a planner. Everything has a plan. It’s part of the reason I think I excel at program/project management. I love order. I love checking things off a list. It all really boils down to the fact that I like to be in control. Of everything. Specifically, my plans. More specifically, my life plan.

I’m a machine when it comes to disasters. I can swoop in and fix them. I, of course, have a plan. I can always see the light at the end of the tunnel. So when something comes along that I can’t fix, or that I don’t have control of, it makes me uneasy. It stresses me out. I start to spiral.

Now, don’t get all concerned. I’m not a crazy lady or anything! This all just starts spiraling internally. I don’t tell anyone about it, I just let it happen. I’m constantly {sometimes secretly} searching for ways to fix “it”, whatever “it” happens to be. I usually do. Because I’m the “fixer”, I’ve got the answers. But what do you do when you can’t fix it? What do you do, when it’s outside of your control? How do you let this little tornado continue to spin, while keeping it all together? Do you just ignore it? Do you exhaust yourself by searching for a remedy? What do you do?

You embrace it. That’s what you do.

You stop worrying about the fact that you can’t change “it.” It’s not yours to change. It’s a situation that is completely outside of your control and you just have to let it run it’s course. You don’t need to be in control of everything. Life isn’t about planning out every little step. Life is about surprises and unplanned moments. And by worrying yourself with the “plan” you’re missing out on so many of those little unexpected moments. Those moments/surprises are memories. They may not all be great memories, heck they may even suck, but that’s life.

So do yourself a favor, I know I just had to, give “it” up. Let “it” go. There is no quick fix. There is nothing you can do. Forget about “it”. Live your life. Make memories. Experience moments. Embrace uncertainty.
