{My WEN Hair Care Review}

I decided to give WEN hair care a shot a few months back. My sister Ashley had been ranting and raving about it for over a year. One morning I was watching the infomercial and Alyssa Milano is just so convincing. So I figured if Alyssa had this much success and so did my sister, it was worth a shot. My hair has been through the ringer. If you know me, you know I was seriously bleaching my hair for about 14 months (like double-process bleaching, eeek). I decided to Ombre my hair earlier this year and take it down a few notches, but my hair is just not like it used to be. It’s not even shiny anymore. Sooooo I thought I’d give WEN a shot. My sister Ashley’s hair is soft to the touch, not frizzy,and super shiny. Lets do this!

I placed my order online for the Almond Mint condition. The online ordering process was very easy. They were also running a promo for quick shipping and an extra hair balm or something so I received it to my doorstep in a few days. I was pretty eager to use it and get this shiny hair thing going.

First thoughts – it’s totally weird. We are so conditioned (pardon the pun) to lather up that when it doesn’t lather it freaks you out. But they had warned me during the infomercial this would happen. So I applied it in sections, which quite honestly is a bit hard to do when you hair is long like mine, wet, and you are standing in the shower, but I did as I was instructed. I used like 5 pumps of it for each section, that definitely wasn’t enough. I went back and applied a bit more. They also said for longer hair you may need to use a bit more of the product. Then I combed it through and went about my showering and shaving before I rinsed it out. My hair was soooo silky. BUT my hair was also very oily by the next morning. Like I couldn’t go to work with my hair that oily. So I washed it with it again, but same thing the next morning. I did try to skip a day on the weekend, but with working out (read running 4+ miles) it was just too oily. So I had to use it everyday. THEN I started breaking out on my neck and behind my ears from it. I have very sensitive and acne-prone skin so really I should have known it was going to happen.

So I called the customer support line to see if I could exchange it for the cucumber which the website says is a bit better for oily hair. She was going to try to charge me for the exchange, ummm, no ma’am, ain’t happening. After a little bit of discussion she realized the err in her ways and sent me a new bottle of the cucumber free of charge. It took about a week to get here, no biggie. I used my old shampoo/conditioner in the mean time.

I tried out the cucumber and I will admit it doesn’t smell as delicious as the almond, but it wasn’t as heavy as the almond so I thought I would be golden. I was able to go every other day without shampooing, but it was still breaking me out on my neck and partially my back AND on my scalp. Super weird. I would get zits on my head! Plus, my hair was just really oily, even after two full weeks of use so I just couldn’t continue using the product. I called and cancelled my auto-ship, let them know it was breaking me out, and suggest they look into products for people with sensitive skin.

Unfortunately I can’t give WEN a thumbs up, but that’s just my experience. My sister still loves it and so does my friend Jen. So I’m 1 out of 3 in my direct circle. Anyone else have an opinion on WEN?

Hugs,
