It’s been a while since I posted a Thankful Thursday and I feel terrible. I have so much to be thankful for and when I do post, I feel like I’m taking advantage of the blessings in my life. Today I’m thankful for friends near and far. I’m lucky to have friends who treat me like I’m part of their family. Even their families treat me like I’m part of their family. I love being around their mothers, hearing stories of their childhood, and being included in conversations that are reserved for the family members.
I’ve been lucky to hold on to some of my friends for years. One of my best friends, Kate, I pledged with in college. Yea that was over 10 years ago. My other best friend Jackie, I met through a friend of a friend when I first moved to the DC area. That was over 10 years ago. And my bestie Lacey, I met through one of my first jobs out of college, that was over 10 years ago as well. To have the opportunity to have friends, for such a long period of time, who have essentially watched you grow up, and still love you, is amazing.
Last week I received a “just because” card in the mail from Kate. Jackie sends me little texts during the week with inside jokes only she and I would get. And Lacey sent me a picture of a woman in a store the other day she knew only I would crack up over.
See, it’s the little things that make me thankful these three girls, excuse me women. Each one is different and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We became friends during different seasons of our lives and that’s what makes it perfect. We’ve watched each other go through tragic relationships, have a little too much to drink, make terrible decisions, cry about our decisions, be lonely, be overwhelmed, find the men of our dreams, get asked to be their wives, married these fabulous men, have their children (well one of them right now…but it won’t be too long before the others start falling in line), and everything in between.
The truth is, I’m probably not as good of a friend as they are to me at times, yet they still love talking to me and being around me. A month could pass before we chat on the phone, three months could pass before we see each other, and it’s like we never skipped a beat. I love who these women are, who they have become, and for letting me follow along on the ride (and many more years to come I hope!). And for that, and many other small and fabulous things about them, I’m thankful.
So what about you friends? What are you thankful for this week? Oh and don’t forget to enter my giveaway!!!!
